Career guidance needs to start earlier. By the time students reach secondary school, many have already ruled out options based on stereotypes or lack of exposure. Primary education offers a critical window to broaden horizons and raise aspirations.

OECD, The State of Global Teenage Career Preparation, 2025

    Description

Career development is a lifelong process beginning in early childhood that enhances student learning, achievement, and wellbeing.

Teachers in the Primary and Middle Years are instrumental in guiding students toward informed and inspired career pathways. Early, equitable career education starting in primary school is vital because it broadens the aspirations of children, helping them to understand who they could become and strengthening their foundation for lifelong learning that will enable them to reach their fullest potential.

During this forum participants will examine the Catholic Education South Australia Pathways and Transition Strategy alongside the national framework, the Australian Blueprint for Career Development, to:

    • Understand the importance of career development starting earlier in education.
    • Identify age-appropriate career development concepts and activities.
    • Integrate career education into existing curriculum areas.
    • Use tools and resources to support students’ career awareness and aspirations during the primary and middle years.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to consider where career education fits the strategic focus for their school.

Workshop participants are asked to bring an electronic device and a copy of the national framework Australian Blueprint for Career Development | Your Career.

Morning tea and lunch will be provided.
