(The focus will be on written language across all curriculum areas)
Notes:
- Minimum 15 registrations required for the workshop to proceed
- For non-CESA schools: $75 registration fee (invoiced after the event)
Workshop Overview
The Learning English: Achievement and Proficiency (LEAP) Levels tool supports teachers to formatively assess EALD students’ English proficiency using written and oral language samples from across the curriculum.
Aligned with the Australian Curriculum Literacy Progressions, the LEAP Levels help teachers identify what learners can do, determine next steps for learning, and monitor progress over time.
Teachers conducting EALD assessments for CESA funding allocations must complete relevant professional learning in using the LEAP Levels.
Participants who have previously attended LEAP workshops are welcome to join as a refresher.
Workshop Focus (2 Consecutive Days)
Participants will:
- Understand the structure and key elements of LEAP Levels 6–12
- Explore how language patterns create meaning in texts
- Identify key language features in student writing
- Confidently assign LEAP Levels and set language learning goals
Preparatory work for Day 1 will be provided in advance.
Attendance at both days is required, as the content learning is cumulative.
AITSL National Professional Standards for Teachers
